Strengthening professional performing arts for young audiences
in the Nordic-Baltic region

The Nordic-Baltic ASSITEJ Network

The Nordic-Baltic ASSITEJ Network, or NBAN as we call it, is a regional network subordinate to the larger ASSITEJ International network.

NBAN is composed of the eight Nordic-Baltic countries Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.

Together, NBAN works to strengthen the visibility of the region in larger international contexts and is dedicated to helping each other develop close collaborations for exchange and sustainable tours.

When the network meets, either physically or online, new opportunities for collaboration are discussed, what kind of events we will create in connection with festivals in other countries and under the auspices of ASSITEJ International and how we can strengthen the visibility of our region in the larger global network.

We are proud and happy to be able to have such good colleagues in our region who are dedicated to making it easier for performing artists in the Nordic-Baltic countries to be able to work across borders.

In NBAN we…

…advocate sustainable working and production conditions for TYA professionals

…promote equality by ensuring inclusivity and diversity in our activities

…create opportunities for artists to collaborate and exchange practices

…facilitate meetings, joint regional and international events with and for artists

…strengthen TYA through exchange of ideas and knowledge between professional artists and cultural practitioners in the Nordic region

…enhance the well-being and cultural literacy of children and young people in the Nordic region

Our values

Expertise

We share resources and expertise for initiatives on “best- practices” in performing arts, both on quality in methodology and artistic welfare. We aim to always stay updated in TYA in the Nordic Region. We advocate sustainable working and production conditions for TYA.

Equality

We promote an inclusive and diverse TYA, supporting broader representation and questioning existing norms, practices and hierarchies.

We are dedicated to the artistic, cultural, and educational rights of children and young people across the globe and advocate on behalf of all children regardless of nationality, cultural identity, ability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or religion.

Relevance

We champion for Nordic TYA and are a relevant actor in TYA of the Nordic Region. We establish collaborative platforms for promoting performing arts from the Nordic-Baltic region towards our global ASSITEJ network and the rest of the world. We facilitate residencies and exchange between artists in our region. Our aim is that all these activities will lead to larger international projects and collaborations, and that our core values of equality, professionality, and diversity will be shared as best practices worldwide.

Generosity

NBAN brings people together so that they can share knowledge and practice within the field of TYA to deepen understanding, develop practice, create new opportunities, and strengthen the global sector. Our aim is to be easily approachable, to have “a high ceiling and a low threshold”, facilitate knowledge sharing within TYA to deepen understanding and create opportunities.
